Description
We are seeking an experienced construction project manager for our San Francisco office.
The Construction Project Manager will be responsible for leading and coordinating the installation of demountable modular wall systems and modular casework within active and new hospital construction projects. This individual will act as the company's construction lead and field-facing representative, serving as the primary liaison between general contractors, owners, facility teams, designers, installers, and internal project staff.
This role is intentionally designed for a professional who has spent the majority of their career working for a general contractor and understands how large healthcare construction projects operate in the field. The Construction Project Manager will be the only team member with deep GC experience, working alongside designers, internal furniture project managers, and installation teams to ensure seamless integration into broader construction schedules.
Construction & Project Leadership
- Serve as the primary construction point of contact for general contractors, owners, facility managers, and other trades related to modular wall installations.
- Represent the company on large healthcare construction projects, ensuring scope, sequencing, and installation requirements are clearly understood and properly executed.
- Integrate modular wall installations into overall GC schedules, coordinating phasing, access, inspections, and turnover milestones.
- Act as a problem-solver in the field, addressing constructability challenges, sequencing conflicts, and coordination issues proactively.
Preconstruction & Planning
- Participate in preconstruction meetings, coordination meetings, and pull-planning sessions with general contractors and project teams.
- Review architectural, structural, and MEP drawings to identify scope requirements, coordination issues, and potential conflicts related to demountable wall systems.
- Support bid reviews, scope clarifications, and installation planning to ensure accurate scheduling and resource allocation.
- Collaborate with designers and internal teams to translate design intent into buildable, code-compliant installation plans.
Healthcare & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure all installations comply with healthcare-specific regulations, including applicable building codes, fire/life safety requirements, and infection control standards.
- Coordinate installation activities in active or occupied hospital environments, understanding ICRA requirements, interim life safety measures, and operational constraints.
- Work with GC safety teams and facility staff to maintain compliance with site safety, access controls, and hospital protocols.
Installation & Field Execution
- Coordinate site access, material deliveries, staging areas, and installation crews in alignment with project schedules.
- Oversee installation sequencing to ensure work proceeds efficiently without disrupting other trades or clinical operations.
- Conduct regular site visits to verify quality, progress, and adherence to approved plans and specifications.
- Identify and resolve field issues related to layout, tolerances, finishes, and interface with adjacent trades.
Client & Stakeholder Management
- Maintain clear, professional communication with clients, general contractors, and facility stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
- Provide regular status updates, schedule forecasts, and issue resolution plans.
- Build trust with GC partners by operating with a construction-first mindset, understanding jobsite realities and constraints.
Budget, Schedule & Change Management
- Track installation schedules, labor needs, and material deliveries to ensure on-time performance.
- Support change order evaluation, scope adjustments, and pricing discussions related to modular wall installations.
- Coordinate with internal project managers on cost tracking, invoicing milestones, and schedule impacts.
Project Closeout
- Lead punch list reviews related to modular wall installations.
- Coordinate final inspections, documentation, and turnover requirements.
- Support warranty handoffs and post-installation follow-up as needed to ensure client satisfaction.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience as a Project Manager or Superintendent working for a general contractor, ideally on healthcare, commercial, or large institutional projects. You must have worked directly for a General Contractor for at least half of your career.
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing, scheduling, and field coordination, particularly within complex, multi-trade environments.
- Experience working on hospital or healthcare projects, including active or occupied facilities, strongly preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and coordination documents.
- Comfortable acting as the construction authority within a multidisciplinary team that includes designers, installers, and internal project staff.
- Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills with both construction and client stakeholders.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Proficiency in project management tools and Microsoft Office; familiarity with AutoCAD or design software a plus.
- PMP certification or equivalent project management training preferred.
